Why choose wood and laminate kitchen worktops?

Wood and laminate kitchen worktops are staples within many modern and traditional style kitchens today and are available in a variety of finishes, grain patterns and tones. Whilst solid wood worktops are durable and have natural anti-bacterial properties, laminate kitchen worktops can provide the same design effect as more expensive worktop finishes including solid wood and granite.

We will NOT be beaten on price

Leekes offer a wide collection of both solid wood and laminate worktops:

Solid Wood Kitchen Worktops

Solid wood worktops are available in a variety of grain patterns and tones from white beech to dark walnut. Warm and mellow, wood is also durable, eco-friendly, easy to clean and repair and hygienic as it contains natural anti-bacterial properties.

To protect your wooden worktop and prevent it drying out, simply apply a thin coating of oil twice a year. You can tell when this treatment is required as water droplets will lie flat rather than bead on the surface. Should you accidentally burn the surface, this can removed by marks by sanding along the grain and then oiling the affected area.

Points to consider:

Wood is easy to clean and usually well-priced BUT can be prone to rust stains, may blacken due to contact with moisture if fitted close to the sink and can also be prone to scratching and score marks.

Laminate Kitchen Worktops

Laminate kitchen worktops come in a wide range of colours and textures with many providing a close mimic of the more expensive worktops. Choose from a wide range of patterned, wood and granite effect finishes that are hardwearing and stain and moisture-resistant.

A considerable benefit of laminate worktops is the price, whilst looking stylish with many different design options, they are also reasonably inexpensive.

Points to consider:

Laminate worktops do require some maintenance and can wear if not looked after properly, this is particularly important as it’s not possible to repair laminate worktops.

Additionally, you need to ensure that where worktops need to be jointed that it is done by a professional as you will always see a joint where the worktops change direction. In order to achieve a good joint this is done with routers, jigs and years of experience.
